Signalised junction A4280

We're waiting for Mick Sharp to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Bedford Borough Council,

I am writing to express my serious concern regarding the signalised
junction on the A4280 near the Waitrose supermarket in Perkins Road,
Bedford.

Would you kindly furnish me with the following:

1. Details of the relevant documentation relating to the installation of
the junction and the relevant permissions sought and granted;

2. Information relating to the priorities and sequencing of the traffic
lights at this junction;

3. Details of the procedure whereby the priorities and sequencing of the traffic lights can be assessed for their effectiveness in regard to safety and traffic flow and thereby re-examined and changed.

I have studied the detrimental effect these signals have had and continue to have on driver behaviour and traffic flow and consider them to be incorrectly sequenced and highly dangerous for a number of reasons. I believe they should be changed to being 'part-time' signals at best or, preferably, removed from use until further studies into their efficacy can be carried out.

One final question I would like to have answered is in relation to the cost of this, what I consider to be unnecessary alteration to what was previously a perfectly safe and free-flowing stretch of road. Did the funds come from council or government budgets or was it paid for by supermarket involved, ie Waitrose?

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Tara Egan, Bedford Borough Council
