Shields Road development

Alistair MacDonald made this Freedom of Information request to Newcastle upon Tyne City Council

The request was successful.

From: Alistair MacDonald

23 February 2011

Dear Newcastle upon Tyne City Council,

There is some building work being undertaken on part of the old
Parsons works, adjacent to the Chilling Road Metro station line and
off Shields Road. I can not locate any relevant planning
application on your online map other than alterations to the
vehicular entrances. Can you point me in the direction of any
application regarding the development or summarise what is being
constructed?

Yours faithfully,

Alistair MacDonald

Dear Newcastle upon Tyne City Council,

Can you give me an update on progress regarding this request.
Having spoken to people undertaking the work I understand that the
work is related to the refurbishment of the Metro system.

I would still like to know the state the site will be left in when
this is complete so would like to persist with this request for
information.

Yours faithfully,

Alistair MacDonald

Dear Newcastle upon Tyne City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of
Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Newcastle upon Tyne
City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Shields Road
development'.

In summery I am wanting to know what the plans are for the former
Parson's site next to Chillingham Metro station.

I have asked twice via email and did not get a response. Once in
person at the customer service centre where they knew nothing about
any plans or developments. I also put in a freedom of information
request for the information and have only had a single confirmation
of the request.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is
available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Alistair MacDonald

Dear Mr MacDonald,

I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you with this response. The Planning team had intended to send you a response to this outside of the FOI Act, as they considered this to be a business as usual enquiry, rather than an FOI request. Unfortunately, this response was not sent out to you. They have now passed me the following information, which should answer your queries.

In terms of the Parsons site, an area of which has been cleared for 3 years or so now, there was a planning permission for part of the site to be redeveloped for Patterson Ford Van hire to allow them to relocate from south of Central Station. However they are moving elsewhere so that will not now happen and the planning permisison, if it has not already done so, will shortly lapse

A small area is currently being used as a site compound for the metro reinvigoration works - this is permitted development and does not require planning permission.

Other than the above, at the present time we are not aware of any other plans for the former Parsons site.

I hope that this helps to answer your questions.

If you are unhappy with our response to your request you can ask for an internal review of our decision. Please send details of your request for review to the following address:

Dear Mr Dinsdale ,

Thank you for your reply. That is exactly the information I was
after. I will assume that the additional work to that required for
the Metro works is within the original planning permission.

Yours sincerely,

Alistair MacDonald
