Request for Information - 2019/1158 - Sheltered Housing & Extra Care

 

I refer to your request for information received on 15/05/2019. Please see
the information below in response to your request: -

 

1.    How many sheltered housing and extra care units are there in the
borough?

o Housing and Regeneration Service: There are 1078 Council-owned
sheltered housing units in the Borough.
o Adult and Children’s Services: There are 144 Extra Care units in
Wandsworth

           

2.    How many sheltered housing and extra care blocks of flats are there
in the borough?

o Housing and Regeneration Service: There are 25 Council owned sheltered
schemes in the Borough.
o Adult and Children’s Services: The Council commissions care and
support services at 3 extra care housing schemes

Chestnut House - 41 flats

Ensham House - 45 flats

Prince of Wales Drive -58 flats across two buildings.  Mary Court has 36
flats, Joan Bartlett House has 30 flats of which 22 are extra care and 8
sheltered housing. 

 

3.    Of these available units (referring to question 1), what are the
[current] void rates?

o Housing and Regeneration Service: There are currently 6 void sheltered
properties.
o Adult and Children’s Services: Voids information related to Extra Care
schemes is as follows: 

Ensham House - no voids 

Chestnut House - 1 void 

Prince of Wales Drive (Mary Court/Joan Bartlett) - 5 voids  

 

4.    Of the current blocks of flats (referring to question 2), how many
of the blocks are [currently] void/vacant?

o Housing and Regeneration Service: No sheltered accommodation blocks
are void at present
o Adult and Children’s Services: Please see response to Q3

 

5.    How many units are ‘fit for purpose’ (referring to question 1)? i.e.
meet the needs of the group they purport to serve

o Housing and Regeneration Service: Every council managed sheltered unit
is considered  fit for purpose.
o Adult and Children’s Services: With regards to Extra Care, 58 flats in
the Prince of Wales Drive scheme are not wheelchair accessible.  All
the other units are fit for purpose.
