Dear City of London Police Authority,

I am writing to obtain documents and emails pertaining to the Shanaz Network.

A report (https://www.west-midlands.police.uk/wmpe...) indicated that Shanaz operated in the across the UK, and that a national guidance document on Shanaz was created and distributed to all police forces. This was a 'best practice' document. A previous request (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/p...) indicated that persons working on Shanaz used their own force's computers and systems, and not a centralised one.

Please send me a copy of this document, and any documents related to the Shanaz network held on your computers.

The article also indicated that regular reports were sent regarding Shanaz.

Please send me a copy of any reports sent or received regarding the Shanaz network.

Yours faithfully,

Sam Andrews

Dear Sam Andrews,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) – REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

The City of London (CoL) acknowledges receipt of your request for information of 10 October 2019.

Public authorities are required to respond to requests within the statutory timescale of 20 working days beginning from the first working day after they receive a request. The Act does not always require public authorities to disclose the information which they hold.

The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and port health authority. The CoL is the local and police authority for the “Square Mile”, ie the historic City of London, and not for London as a whole. Please see the following page containing a link to a map (‘Explore the City’), which shows the local authority area covered by the CoL:
https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/maps/Pag....

The CoL does have some functions, including Port Health Authority functions, which extend beyond the City boundary. For further information please see: www.cityoflondon.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Sam Andrews,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) - REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Following your request of 10 October 2019 and our acknowledgement of the
same date, the City of London (CoL) responds as follows.

In accordance with section 1(1)(a) of the FOIA the CoL confirms that it
does not hold the information that you have requested.

In addition, the CoL as a local authority and police authority is legally
a separate body from the City of London Police for the purpose of
compliance with the FOIA. In addition, please note that the City of London
Police is the Police Force for the Square Mile. Beyond this, the
Metropolitan Police Force (commonly referred to as ‘the MET’) is the
Police Force for the rest of London (‘Greater London’). The rest of
England is covered by various other police forces.

In so far as you require the information for the “Square Mile”, you may
wish to contact the City of London Police. Further information can be
found at:

For the MET please visit:

For police forces for the rest of the UK, please see the following
webpage:

We hope that this response is of assistance.

If you wish to make a complaint about the way the CoL has managed your
enquiry, please use the following link to the CoL’s FOI complaints
procedure : [4]www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Feedback, at the end of which is
located the FOI complaints procedure. If, having used the CoL’s FOI
Complaints Procedure, you are still dissatisfied, you may request the
Information Commissioner to investigate. Please contact: Information
Commissioner, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Telephone: (01625) 545700.  Website: [5]http://www.ico.org.uk/.

The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and
port health authority. Subject to any other statutory provisions requiring
the CoL to disclose information, release of information outside the scope
of the Act is subject to the discretion of the CoL.
