Dear FoI Officer,

I am writing to make an Open Government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as specifically as possible.

If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.

I am writing to find out about the statistics on the sex offenders list in Leicestershire from 2004 to 2009. I would like to know the ratio of men and women and the average age.

I understand that under the Act, I should be entitled to a response within 20 working days. I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing or by email that you have received this request. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Thank you very much for your time,

Police Authority,

Leila,
Thank you for this message.
I have not yet made an exhaustive search of the Authority's documents and records, but thinking about the information the Police Authority holds and the information it receives from the Constabulary, I doubt whether there is much we hold about sex offenders. Statistics may be mentioned occasionally in performance reports to the full Authority (- in recent years these reports are usually published on our website).
You may not know, but Leicestershire Constabulary is a separate organisation to ourselves for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act and it seems to me that you would receive a more fulsome response by asking the same question to the Constabulary. Then, if you still want to ask the Authority once you have the Constabulary response to hand, I would be happy to help.
So, if you are content to deal with the request that way, please let me know and I will forward it to the Constabulary. (The relevant department's email address is [email address] in case you want direct contact - but please respond to my suggestion too).
Good luck with your studies.

Yours sincerely,
Robert Swinfield
