Dear Ms Cross,

Freedom of Information Act 2000

Your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 has been
considered by Warwickshire County Council. I am writing to inform you that I am unable
to provide the information you have requested.

You asked us:

I would like to know what is being taught to children in infant, middle school and
senior schools in Warwickshire with regard to RSE lessons.

This is what I would like to know.
1.) Details of the curriculum being taught for all age groups regarding sex
education.

2.) Are parents allowed to opt their children out of these lessons?
3.) If not, why not?
4.) Do schools use outside agencies to deliver the lessons?
5.) If so, please name these agencies.
6.) Do individuals visit schools to discuss gender ideology?
7.) If so, to what extent are students expected to participate in these discussions?
8.) Are parents provided with in depth information beforehand as to what topics
will be covered?

9.) Are written handouts, pamphlets or questionnaires provided/handed out to
students?

The information you have requested is not held by Warwickshire County Council. This is
because the relationship, sex and health education (RSHE) curriculum is the
responsibility of schools to deliver, and therefore each school will hold this information.

From September 2020, the statutory duty for delivering RSHE was transferred to
schools. Primary schools have a duty to deliver relationship and health education, and
secondary schools have a duty to delivery relationship, sex and health education. The
statutory guidance is available here:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachmen
t_data/file/1090195/Relationships_Education_RSE_and_Health_Education.pdf

The duty includes having a published RSHE policy on the school website, which must
be written and refreshed in consultation with parents and carers. Each school would
design their own curriculum, including specifics on content, materials, delivery method,
etc.

We therefore recommend, if you have not already done so, that you contact the schools
themselves for further information. You can find the contact details for schools in the
Warwickshire local authority area on our "Find a school" webpage at the link below:
