Request for information
We write further to your request for information dated 3^rd November 2021,
which we have been considering under
the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
We can confirm that Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water does hold the information you
have requested.
Please find attached a copy of the start/stop times for Event Duration
Monitors (EDM) data for Blaenau Ffestiniog WwTW (Storm) during 2020 and
2021 as requested.
In order to explain the data, you have received, we calculate EDM spills
using the 12/24 hour spill block method which utilises the EDM data
recorded at 15 minute intervals.

o Any readings over the spill trigger level in the first 12 hour block
is counted as 1 spill, whether the discharge was for 15 minutes or for
12 hours.
o Any readings over the spill trigger level in the next and subsequent
24 hours blocks are each counted as one additional spill per block
o This counting method continues until there is a 24 hour block with no
spills
o After a clear 24 hour block the spill counting sequence is reset and
begins again when a reading over the spill trigger level is detected
The start / stop times given will be those associated with the methodology
above, rather than the start / stop times of each individual discrete
discharge.
