Environmental Information Request
Dear Ms Devereux

Thank you for your environmental information request. Please find our
response to your questions below.

“I am trying to get the figures for the number of times that CSO's and
untreated sewage were released into the Tidal river Thames from January
2017 to December 2019. Particularly Teddington, Westminster, Limehouse,
Tower Hamlets, Barking and Tilbury”.

Our Response

Please find attached the EDM data requested for CSO’s on the tidal Thames,
in the attached document “Tidal Thames data submissions”

Please note EDMs only started to be installed in 2018, so there is no data
for 2017. In 2018 only two had EDMs installed, and in 2019 there were 11.

In 2018 we can only provide EDM data for 2 outfalls: Henley STW and West
Putney SRS. These spilled 18 times in the year between them.

In 2019 we have EDM data for 11 outfalls, but for various lengths of time
so this is not a complete list.  There are 221 spills between them all
from the data we have.

As mentioned above, we don’t have any EDM data for 2017.

The attachment includes the site by site breakdown.

Please note that this is based on the 12/24 hour spill count methodology
outlined by the Environment Agency, rather than the actual number of
individual spills.

You can find the Environment Agency guidance on the 12/24 spill count
method at the following link:
