Severe Disability Premium for legacy benefit claimants (ESA)

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I have been informed by the DWP Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) department on several occasions that they no longer issue IS10 forms to claimants wishing to apply for the severe disability premium (SDP) following an appropriate award of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because IS10 forms are too "valuable" to issue.
Nor will the DWP accept a letter from the claimant requesting the same.
Instead, claimants are instructed to telephone and the DWP and ask for the SDP to be added to their ESA award. I was told by the DWP (ESA) that this procedure can not be deviated from.

Can you please clarify what the official procedure is for new SDP applications on ESA awards following a new award of PIP or other qualifying disability related benefit

Yours faithfully,

Michelle Harrison
