Senior officer references

We're waiting for A Smith to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Wolverhampton City Council,

When Mr Adrian McCormick was appointed by the council to a senior role, who was contacted for references? Was a reference sought or received from West Lindsey District Council, from which he had previously been suspended?

Yours faithfully,

A Smith

Dear Wolverhampton City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Wolverhampton City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Senior officer references'.

============

For clarity, I am interpreting that the someone else you refer to is Mr Adrian McCormick and not someone else providing a reference.

Your website describes that head of service posts attract typical salaries above £60,000:-

http://data.wolverhampton.gov.uk/View/em...

Please can you indicate what your council's policy is for obtaining references when appointing to posts at this salary level. For example, whether there is a requirement to obtain references from the last two or however many employers when it concerns individuals who will be paid these amounts of public money.

Mr McCormick's suspension from the post of deputy chief executive was reported on in the public interest by national and local press:-

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-li...
The deputy chief executive of of a Lincolnshire authority has been suspended. Adrian McCormick is responsible for finances at West Lindsey District Council.

https://www.gainsboroughstandard.co.uk/n...
THE DEPUTY chief executive at West Lindsey District Council has been suspended for alleged ‘gross misconduct’. The £80,000-a-year Adrian McCormick – who is responsible for the council’s finances - has been suspended on full pay while an investigation into his alleged misconduct takes place. Despite opposition from councillors, high-earner Mr McCormick joined the council last January

https://www.gainsboroughstandard.co.uk/n...
AN £80,000-a-year council boss suspended for alleged gross misconduct has left the authority – and taxpayers’ money has been used to give him a pay-off, the Gainsborough Standard understands.

I therefore consider that it is a legitimate public concern to establish if Wolverhampton Council did not obtain references from this recent employer when appointing to the senior post of Head of Transformation. I would ask you to review the refusal to supply this information, as well as clarifying your council's policy for obtaining references for senior posts.
