IMPS, University of Reading

Dear Mr Roberts,

We have completed the compilation of information in response to your
request.

We can confirm that we do hold the information specified in your request;
“I would like to know the yearly salary of the pro vice chancellor/s and
how much that has increased since 2012, year-to-year.” However, under
section 40(2) of the FOIA we are withholding the specific yearly salary of
each Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

Section 40(2) of the FOIA allows a public authority to withhold
information under the FOIA when the information requested is personal data
relating to someone other than the requestor, and its disclosure would
breach any of the Data Protection principles. In this case we believe that
the disclosure of information in respect of potentially identifiable
individuals would not be within their reasonable expectations and as such
would be unfair and in breach of the first data protection principle which
requires personal data to be processed fairly and lawfully. Section 40 (2)
is an absolute exemption and not subject to a public interest test.
We have however provided you with a web-link below to the University
Accounts information, under section 7 (staff costs), you will find the
information relating to salaries in an aggregated format under sub-heading
‘Remuneration of higher paid staff’. We hope this is of use to you.
