Senior management salaries
Dear Cardiff University,
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query as specifically as possible.
I would like to know the yearly salary of the pro vice chancellor/s and how much that has increased since 2012, year-to-year.
I would be interested in any information held by your organization regarding my request. I understand that I do not have to specify files or documents and that it is the institution’s responsibility to provide the information I require. If you need further clarification, please contact me by email.
I would like to receive the information electronically.
If my request is denied in whole or in part, I ask that you justify this by reference to specific exemptions of the Act. I will also expect you to release all non-exempt material. I reserve the right to appeal your decision to withhold any information or to charge excessive fees.
I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing/by email that you have received this request. I look forward to your response within 20 working days, as outlined by the statute.
Yours faithfully,
David Roberts

Dear David
I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information request dated
18^th April 2018 in which you requested information regarding the salaries
of Pro-Vice Chancellors and the annual increases in Pro-Vice Chancellors
salaries since 2012.
For ease of reference, I have reproduced your question below and set out
our corresponding response.
I would like to know the yearly salary of the pro vice chancellor/s and
how much that has increased since 2012, year-to-year.
With the exception of the Vice-Chancellor, an identifiable individual
member of staff's salary is confidential between the individual and the
University. The University therefore considers that the annual salaries
for the members of staff who hold the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor are
exempt from disclosure by virtue of Section 40(2) of the Freedom of
Information Act entitled Personal Information. This financial information
would constitute the individual's personal data as defined under Section 1
of the Data Protection Act 1998 and to release the information would
breach Principle 1 of the Data Protection Principles. To release such
information could be considered unfair and could undermine the
employer/employee relationship and expectation of mutual confidentiality
between both parties.
In addition to the full remuneration details of the Vice-Chancellor, the
University discloses the number of staff with a basic salary of over
£100,000 per annum, within its annual Financial Statements. This can be
found on our webpages at:

Please see pages 24 and 25.
I trust this information satisfies your enquiry. The University has a
Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure should you feel dissatisfied
with this response or the way in which your request was handled.
Complaints must be made in writing and must set out why you believe the
University has not met its obligations under the Freedom of Information
Act. You may email your complaint to [2][email address] where
it will be forwarded to the Director of Strategic Planning and Governance
who will be responsible for overseeing the review.
If you remain dissatisfied following the outcome of your complaint, you
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for
consideration. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at the
following address: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House,
Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in
Cardiff University. If you require further assistance please feel free to
contact me.
Yours sincerely
