Dear Ms Melson
The relevant team dealing with your request has asked for clarification on
the questions that you have asked. Please see the request for
clarification below.
“With reference to the request for “the percentage of pupils with SEN
without statement by month of birth and gender” which you labelled as
‘Question 1’.
a) Could they clarify the percentage figure they require – Is it the
percentage of pupils with SEN without statement compared to overall school
population or just breaking down “month of birth” and “gender” into % ‘s
compared to the overall number of SEN children without statements.
b) What is meant by breaking down “month of birth” – do they want children
broken down into year groups or months i.e. those born in January,
February, March etc.
c) With reference to the request for “percentage of pupils by gender and
their age in reception class or age in year 7” at start of academic year
– does this mean the start of this academic year (Sept 13) -if so count
day is tomorrow so clean data would not be available for approximately 3
/4 weeks.
If so the Primary need for non statemented children would not be available
as this is only taken in the January status - we are intending on using
the Jan Census for 12/13 and 11/12 when responding to some of the other
questions. So we could use Jan 13 data or wait until Jan 14 to provide
current data re Primary Need.
Kind regards,
Nathan Willis

Dear Information.Request,
Many thanks for your response.
I note from the data supplied that there is a higher percentage of summer born pupils classified as SEN non-statement compared with autumn born pupils.
This information will no doubt be of interest to Shropshire's School Admissions Team when contemplating parental requests for summer born children to start school in reception class at compulsory school age; could you pass this data on to the school admissions department.
Many thanks,
Yours sincerely,
Michelle Melson
