Unfortunately the Department does not hold information on the number of
children who had a statutory assessment carried out. The Education and
Library Boards would hold this information as they undertake the statutory
The attached spreadsheet provides the number of pupils with statements of
special educational needs that were counted as part of the annual school
census. The annual school census is undertaken on the first Friday of the
first full week in October. It is a count of pupils at this specific point
in time and not over a financial year.
