Freedom of Information Act 2000

Ms Peterson

I refer to your request under the above legislation for information about
statutory assessments and statements of special educational needs .  I
wish to confirm that the Department has now completed its search for the
information which you requested on .

Unfortunately the Department does not hold information on the number of
children who had a statutory assessment carried out.  The Education and
Library Boards would hold this information as they undertake the statutory
assessments.

The attached spreadsheet provides the number of pupils with statements of
special educational needs that were counted as part of the annual school
census.  The annual school census is undertaken on the first Friday of the
first full week in October. It is a count of pupils at this specific point
in time and not over a financial year.
