Selective landlord licensing
Dear Middlesbrough Council,
How many catagory 1 and 2 complaints were received from the start of the selective landlord initiative in North Ormesby? How many catagory 1 and 2 issues were resolved at a satisfactory conclusion for the complainants?
How many officers are currently employed to work on the selective landlord initiative?
How many properties, evidenced as drug houses have been shut down via the selective landlord initiative?
Yours faithfully,
Dora wing

Dear Ms Wing
REF NO: 013631
I am writing to confirm that Middlesbrough Council has now completed its
search for the information you requested on 8^th November 2018. Please
accept my sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your request.
In your request you asked for the following information:
How many category 1 and 2 complaints were received from the start of the
selective landlord initiative in North Ormesby? How many category 1 and 2
issues were resolved at a satisfactory conclusion for the complainants?
Response:
In 2015 Prior to the scheme starting: 2 cat 1 hazards and 21 cat 2 hazards
from 6 Housing Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) inspections.
Between the commencement of the scheme and June 2018, 147 cat 1 hazards
and 1239 cat 2 hazards out of 581 inspections. All cat 1 and cat 2
hazards were resolved to a satisfactory conclusion.
How many officers are currently employed to work on the selective landlord
initiative?
Response:
7 Officers
How many properties, evidenced as drug houses have been shut down via the
selective landlord initiative?
Response:
If the question relates to the Power to Close Properties by virtue of
section 80 Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 the answer
is nil; however, our default position is to always work with the
owner/landlord of the property first unless there is evidence of their
complicity. We have actively worked with 11 landlords who have served
eviction notices and obtained possession of their property back from the
tenants in circumstances where the evidence or intelligence indicated it
was being used as a drug house. We are currently working with a further 2
landlords for a further 2 properties
If you have any queries about this response, please do not hesitate to
contact me direct on (01642) 729696/729698 or email

shown above in any future communications.

for an internal review within 40 days of receipt of the response. You
