Selection Process Medicine (Scottish students)

The request was partially successful.

Dear University of Aberdeen,

A100 MEDICINE COURSE - SELECTION PROCESS

Could you please advise on how you allocate points to Scottish Students who are studying A-Levels & GCSES against those who are studying advanced Highers & Nat 5s, i.e. would you award the same amount of points for an A in Advanced Higher as you would for an A in A-Level or would an A* in A-Level be the equivalent of the A in advanced Higher? Also, similar for GCSES/Nat 5s?

Yours faithfully,

N Leighton

Dear Nicola Leighton,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST FOI 2021-040

I refer to your email of 12 February 2021 requesting information relating to the Medicine A100 selection process.

Your request has now been considered under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, ‘the Act’.

Could you please advise on how you allocate points to Scottish Students who are studying A-Levels & GCSEs against those who are studying Highers & Nat 5s,

Scottish candidates who are sitting GCSE examinations are scored based on their predicted grades for their A-Level examination. 3 subjects will be scored with 25 points awarded for each A predicted. Applicants who are predicted A* are awarded 1 point per A* predicted making the total maximum points available 78.

i.e. would you award the same amount of points for an A in Advanced Highers as you would for an A in A-Level or would an A* in A-level be the equivalent of the A in advanced Higher?

As the examination system differ and entry requirements for each qualification differ also, we do not compare A-Levels and Advanced Highers directly.

Also, similar for GCSEs/Nat 5s?
We do not score GCSE or Nat 5.
