Selection parameters & Coverage stats for BBC 'The Papers - Newspaper headlines' page

The request was refused by British Broadcasting Corporation.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

The BBC website has a daily summary of UK Newspaper front pages.

The latest may be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-pape...

1) What is the BBC definition of 'Newspaper' and 'headline' on these pages?

2) Which titles are included? What is the guide to the order they are listed in?

3) For the last year, please provide details of which of the major tabloids or broadsheets that commonly are included in pictorial front page form, have not been on certain days. Title and date will suffice.

4) For the last year, please provide details of which of the major tabloids or broadsheets that commonly are included in pictorial front page form, have not been, OR with a text reference to any of the front page content. Title and date will suffice.

5) Of 3) and 4), which have seen public contact with BBC Complaints asking for an explanation?

6) of 5), what percent were offered an explanation other than generic references such as 'decisions that are always judgement calls rather than an exact science' or 'subjective decisions made by our editors and reporters'.

7) Of those in 5) not covered by 6), what were the specific reasons offered?

8) Of 5), how many BBC responses pointed at non-headline reference coverage elsewhere, at other times, to explain failure to include that day's headlines being covered on the 'The Papers - Newspaper headlines' page.

9) What has decided the choice of the 'related internet links' panel? Especially regarding those NOT chosen?

10) What parameters decide the 'Making people click' panel selection? How are these identified and measured?

Yours faithfully,
Peter Martin
