Security vetting of recyclable waste operatives
Dear Cheshire East Council,
I have been made aware that the recycling sorting facility at Shotton operate a manual/automatic sorting process, as it is not realistic for every person to shred or deface personal or financial information on all paper waste what is the security vetting procedure of operatives that will come in to contact with this information?
Lots of people in the Cheshire East region are poorly educated when it comes to data security so are completely unaware of the risks, some older people are simply unable to eradicate all personal and financial data, what steps have Cheshire East taken to ensure that information like this does not get leaked to members of the public or even employees of ANSA the councils contracted collection agents?
Yours faithfully,
Jason Podmore

operate a manual/automatic sorting process, as it is not realistic for
every person to shred or deface personal or financial information on all
paper waste what is the security vetting procedure of operatives that will
come in to contact with this information?
I have liaised with colleagues in ANSA (an alternative service delivery
vehicle wholly owned by Cheshire East Council). ANSA operates Cheshire
East Council's Waste & Recycling Service. Consequently, I can confirm that
Cheshire East Council does not offer a confidential waste collection
service to the residents. As such we do not vet our waste operatives
through DBS as a requirement of the post. Officers have also advised that
the Shotton facility is not a confidential waste facility. Therefore
Cheshire East Council does not hold any information falling within the
scope of your request.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review under the Freedom
of Information Act you should write to the Compliance Unit, Cheshire East
Council, Westfields Floor 1, C/O Municipal Buildings, Earle Street ,

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the
ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints
procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be
contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water
Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Kind regards.
