Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000
Thank you for your request for information held by London Borough of
Lewisham. I have included below a copy of your request, followed by the
Council’s response.
Please provide any communications discussing the costs of, or awarding of,
contracts to provide security / manned guarding / 'property guardianship'
at the old Tidemill School.
At the minimum please provide the cost of security broken down over time,
how that cost was/ is being paid, and how the cost was authorised.
Please see the details outlined below regarding the costs of the security
of the Old Tidemill School;
There has been security on the site since July 2016 after the Council
gained possession of the annex building from the artist group that
occupied the space. There were concerns that the squatters/guardians would
enter the annex following the issuing of the Notices to Quit and pending
Court action to have them removed from the main School building.
Following the eviction of the squatters/property guardians on the 4^th
October 2016, 24 hour security was placed into the main school and
continued in the annex building to prevent any further squatting
incidences. The security is currently provided by County Enforcement who
also provided the bailiffs and support for Court action to gain possession
for the eviction. There is no contract between the Council and County
Enforcement so we are not tied into using them.
To date, the cost of the security for this site totals £577,011.00.
Breakdown as follows

There was an amount factored into the overall project budget to cover
security costs, however due to delays in the project, this budget was
increased and approved at a Mayor and Cabinet meeting in March 2018 and
this sum will be reimbursed from the capital receipt that will be
generated as the scheme progresses.
