Freedom of Information, University of York

Dear James Bithell,
Thank you for your request for information from the University of York.
Please see our response below.
Please could I obtain a count of the number of incidents responded to by
your security teams, broken down by category and month for the period 1st
August 2018 - 30th April 2019 inclusive.
The information you requested is in the attached excel spreadsheet.

Under section 40 (2) of the Freedom of Information Act, 2000 (FoIA), the
University declines to release figures which total fewer than five, as
disclosure of small numbers in such specific context could allow for
individuals to be identified. Where this is the case, we have stated such
figures as <5 (i.e. 1-4) and further breakdowns cannot be provided.

As personal data, disclosure of this information into the public domain
would mean compromising individuals’ personal data and the University
breaching its obligations under the Data Protection Act, 2018.
Consequently, the exemption for personal data under section 40 (2) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 (by virtue of section 40 (3)) has been
applied. This states that personal data (as defined by section 5(1)(a) of
the General Data Protection Regulation) are exempt from disclosure where
disclosure to the public would contravene one or more of
the data protection principles.

In accordance with the provisions of section 17(4) of the Freedom of
Information Act this letter acts as a Refusal Notice in respect of the
information withheld under section 40(2) above.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the
right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be
submitted in writing to the Information Governance Officer
at [1][University of York request email] , detailing your grounds for appeal/complaint. A full
copy of our review procedure can be found
at [2]http://www.york.ac.uk/records-management...

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF.

I hope this information is useful.

Yours sincerely,
Information Governance Team
