Hello
Thank you for submitting your FOI request regarding children on a Section
20 care order.
In order to complete this request, please can you provide some additional
clarification.
Please can the you clarify the meaning of ‘removed’ in questions 2 and 3:
does this mean a child coming into care on a section 20 order and then
being placed on an Interim or Full Care Order, or a child being placed on
a section 20 and then ceasing care? A child would be classed as being in
care if they were placed on a section 20 order, therefore question 3 does
not make sense.
Kind Regards

Dear Alison Stephens
Thank you for your request for information regarding children on a Section

1. How many children are currently held on a section 20 order?
There are 98 children looked after under section 20 (as at 30th April
2018).
2. How many children have been removed off a section 20 order in the
last 12 calendar months?
109 children ceased to be looked after under section 20 as a consequence
of either leaving care or becoming subject to a court order (from 1st May
2017 to 30th April 2018).
3. Of the children removed from a section 20 order in past 12 calendar
months:

interim care order being granted? 28

From 1st May 2017 to 30^th April 2018:

2017 – 123 months
Please note, the response to Q5 relates to just one child. In North
Yorkshire we are keen to ensure our use of Section 20 is only used when
appropriate to do so. There is a process in place where all young people
who are looked after under this auspice are regularly reviewed.
Kind Regards
