Search for Unmarked Graves at Wormhout, France, 1988
Dear Ministry of Defence,
At The National Archives, in PIN 59/591, is a report on the murder of British prisoners near Wormhout on 28 May 1940, dated 30 June 1988. Page 3 of this report states that 'There has also been a demand that the area of the barn be searched for the unmarked graves of a number of victims which is presumed to be there, so that they can be reburied properly. Advice is being sought on this matter'.
Nothing in this, or any other file connected with the massacre, indicates whether such an investigation took place, or, if so, what the outcome was.
Can the Ministry please advise whether any such investigation took place, and, if so, what the outcome was?
Yours faithfully,
Dilip Sarkar MBE FRHistS
