Dear Lauren,
Information held
Thank you for your request, unfortunately the University does not hold the
information you have requested.
The Open University is a distance learning institution which operates in a
different way to traditional universities across the UK. The Open
University’s mission is to make learning accessible to all. On this basis,
there is not a specifically prescribed number of places available nor are
there usually any entry requirements to learn with us and therefore there
are no applications or offers made. The Open University also works on a
modular structure with students opting for different modules which will
work towards their chosen qualification, or they can opt to study for a
stand-alone module not connected to a qualification. Students reserve a
place on one of our modules and they will then organise funding for their
chosen module. Once their funding has been confirmed, the student is
registered onto the module. The vast majority of applicants for
undergraduate study at the OU therefore become students; there are a few
exceptions such as nursing and social work where recruitment is through
employers, and on rare occasions certain modules (not the qualification)
may have reached their quota so students are placed on standby.
I am happy to talk through with you your specific requirements, and
explore what information the University does hold that you would wish to
access.
Review
If you have any concerns about the way the University has observed the
provisions of the Freedom of Information Act you may apply for your
request to be reviewed. Freedom of Information Reviews are considered by
the University Secretary or his delegate. Your request must be submitted
within 40 working days of receipt of this letter/email. Reviews should be
addressed to the above inbox, entitled “FOIA Review”, and should set out
the reasons for the review. You will have a further right of appeal to
the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Yours sincerely
