I refer to the first part of your request regarding the number of places
available for different categories of students. The number of places for
Scottish fee rates students at undergraduate level are set by the Scottish
Funding Council (SFC). During the period that you have referred to, EU
students were funded as home students and the number of places available
were part of our total funded places set by the SFC. These details can be
found on their website at www.sfc.ac.uk. However, the RUK and
international market is an unrestricted market and there is no cap in the
number of places.

In relation to the second part of your request regarding the number of
applications from different categories of students, these statistics are
published by Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) on their
website. The statistics for the admission cycles which you have queried
can be found here:
https://www.ucas.com/data-and-analysis/u....

We note that you have also requested statistics relating to the number of
offers and number of offers that were accepted by the different categories
of students across all undergraduate programmes. I can confirm that we
hold this information. However, we consider this information to be exempt
from publication under the Section 33(1)(b) of the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002 which applies where disclosure would prejudice
substantially the economic interests of GSA. The information requested
contains information relating to historic trends which influence our
targets for subsequent admission cycles. We consider these to be
commercially sensitive information which could be utilised by competitors.

As Section 33(1)(b) does not provide an absolute exemption, we have also
considered whether it would be in the public interest to disclose this
information. This means that, we have balanced the public interest in
disclosing this information against the potential prejudice it may cause
to the commercial and economic interests of the organisation. We have
concluded that the public interest lies in ensuring the continued
operation and success of GSA by protecting its commercial and economic
interests from substantial risks which may arise from the publication of
this information.

This concludes our response to your request.

If you are dissatisfied with the way in which GSA has responded to your
request, you have the right to seek a review. If you wish to request a
review, please contact Mrs Janet Allison, Academic Registrar,
[1][email address] or [2][email address] within 40 working days.
Your request must be in a recordable format (letter, email, audio tape,
etc.). You will receive a full response to your request for review within
20 working days of its receipt. Please quote the reference number above in
any communications.

If you are dissatisfied with the way in which we have handled your request
for review, you have a right of appeal to the Scottish Information
Commissioner. You can now make an appeal online, using the new
Commissioners online appeal service. Please find the direct link to this
service at [3]http://www.itspublicknowledge.info/Appeal. The online appeal
service is available 24/7 and offers you real time help and advice about
your appeal.
