Dear The Glasgow School of Art,

I would like to request the following information under FOISA:

How many students were admitted to your institution to begin studying an undergraduate degree in each of the last 6 academic years?

How many Scottish domiciled students were admitted to your institution to study an undergraduate degree in each of the last six academic years? I would like this information broken down by degree programme.

How many Scottish domiciled students from ‘Scotland’s most deprived backgrounds’ as defined by the Scottish Government’s widening access policy were admitted to your institution to study an undergraduate degree in each of the last 6 academic years? I would like this information broken down by degree programme.

If you require clarification please contact me promptly.

Yours faithfully,

elizabeth thomson

Good evening,

I wanted to send a clarification on a couple of points based on a query I received from a different institution:

1. I am only seeking information relating to the number of new students being admitted to an undergraduate degree programme. ie, whichever year they are entering at - as i realise some will start in year 1 and others may leapfrog into a higher year to begin with. I am not seeking info relating to continuing students going into 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year.

2. By admitted i refer to the number of (new) students who took up a place at the institution (or enrolled/registered) in each academic year.

Kind regards,
elizabeth thomson

Good afternoon,

Many thanks for your reply. Can i just clarify that the numbers contained in this spreadsheet reflect the number of students who accepted a place and started studying, rather than the total number of applications.

Dear Ms Thomson

Ref: GSA FoI 18/19 377

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request regarding SIMD 20
admissions, which was received by the Glasgow School of Art on 12 June
2019.

I have received the information (attached) from a Senior Registry Officer.
We have added numbers of SIMD 20 admissions to the spreadsheet we provided
you earlier (in response to requests GSA FOI 18/19 352 and GSA FOI 18/19
373). It includes the number of applicants, Scottish domiciled applicants,
SIMD 20 and SIMD 40 applicants, and SIMD 20 students for the last six
years. The figures have been broken down by both programme and year (with
totals provided for both). Please note that in line with Higher Education
Statistics Agency policy on data anonymization all figures have been
rounded to the nearest five. For more information on HESA policy visit
their website:
[1]https://www.hesa.ac.uk/about/regulation/....

We now have no outstanding requests for information on our records – we
have disclosed information for GSA FOI 18/19 352, GSA FOI 18/19 373 and
GSA FOI 18/19 377 (regarding SIMD20/40 applicants and admissions), as well
as GSA FOI 18/19 364 (regarding income from undergraduate tuition fees).
Three further requests are currently on hold pending clarification from
yourself – GSA FOI 18/19 359, GSA FOI 18/19 360 and GSA FOI 18/19 366
(regarding the schooling of applicants). We made a request for
clarification regarding these on the 13 June 2019. If we have not heard
from you within 30 days of that date we will assume you are no longer
seeking access to the information and take no further action.

This concludes our response to your information request.
