The request was refused by City of Edinburgh Council.

Dear City of Edinburgh Council,

Please could you provide information on the range of residential excursions which are offered within your authority by Secondary Schools.

I would like the information in CSV format if possible to include:
School; Year Group(s); Destination; General Date (Month/Year); Number of Nights; Number of Students involved; Cost; where possible please also provide the Number of Years the excursion has been established.

Please provide information for the last 3 academic sessions 2015/16, 2014/15, 2013/14 where this is possible.

Residential excursions are a valuable contribution to the education of our young people, and I am interested in the range of opportunities being offered to those in our local communities.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Weider

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Excessive Cost

Subject: Schools: Residential Excursions

Thank you for your request for information of 12/09/2016, where you asked for the following:

Please provide the following information for the last 3 academic sessions 2015/16, 2014/15, 2013/14 where this is possible.

Please could you provide information on the range of residential excursions which are offered within your authority by Secondary Schools.

I would like the information in CSV format if possible to include:

School;
Year Group(s);
Destination;
General Date (Month/Year);
Number of Nights;
Number of Students involved;
Cost;

Where possible please also provide the Number of Years the excursion has been established.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with the information you have requested as the cost to the Council of locating, retrieving and providing you with the information exceeds the statutory maximum of £600.

Section 12 (1) of the Act does not oblige a Scottish public authority to comply with a request for information if the authority estimates that the cost of complying with the request would exceed the statutory limit.

The total cost of complying with your request is £900.00

This sum has been calculated as follows:

We hold some information centrally for secondary schools, however this will take approximately 20 hours to retrieve and collate. Other information is held by the schools.

There are 23 secondary schools and each would need to be contacted to collate this information. It is estimated that this would take 40 hours @ £15.00 per hour for staff time and, based on this cost, the total cost of complying with this part of your request would be £900.00.

The Council appreciates that you may not have been aware of the size and scope of the information that you requested the Council provide you with as a result of your request. It may be possible to provide you with a portion of the information that you are seeking. If you wish to discuss this option further, or have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please note that requests revised in this way are considered as new requests under the legislation.

Please remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

To promote transparency and accountability, please note it is the Council’s policy to publish all request details and responses made under the freedom of information legislation. This information will be made available through the Council’s website and will not include your personal details. The disclosure log is available at the following link:
