Schools Ceasing to be Accepted under Teachers' Pension Scheme

The request was successful.

Dear Department for Education,

Would you please supply:

1. A list of all establishments ceasing to be an Accepted School within the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) since 2010
a. status of the establishment at the time of ceasing to be Accepted i.e. independent school (charity), independent school (for profit), other (details where available)
b. number of employees in pensionable employment at the date of ceasing to participate in TPS
c. Reason recorded for ceasing to be Accepted i.e. closure, failure to comply with regulations, application by proprietor etc.
d. Value of any Bond or Guarantee to the Secretary of State returned to the establishment on ceasing to participate in TPS
e. any exit payment required from the establishment on ceasing participation in TPS

2. A current list of those establishments Accepted in the Teachers Pension Scheme that are independent schools (in England) registered under section 99 of the Education and
Skills Act 2008(a) or (in Wales) registered under section 161 of EA 2002;
a. Current number of employees in pensionable employment
b. Value of any Bond or Guarantee provided to the Secretary of State
c. Total employer contributions paid to TPS in the last full year for which you hold records
d. Total employer contributions paid to TPS in the last full year for which you hold records

3. Whether any Accepted employer has, on ceasing to participate in TPS, been required to make payments beyond those required to complete employee/employer contributions as at the date of ceasing participation i.e. payments by way of exit charges, settlement of future liabilities etc.

4. Whether any circumstances exist, or are being contemplated, where exit payments as contemplated in 3. above might be required of an establishment ceasing participation in TPS.
