Dear Ms Barnett

Freedom of Information request - Ref 2271

I am writing further to your FOI request about school admissions, which we
formally received on 6 September 2010.

You asked for the number of first choice applications for each secondary
school for September 2010.

Please see the spreadsheet for the number of first preference applications
and the number of first preferences offers.

It may be useful to explain our applications system. Solihull has a
system of equal preferences. Parents can express up to 5 preferences on
their secondary application form. They rank them in the order that they
want them, i.e. favourite school first. We only use the ranking if the
child could be allocated a place at more than one school. We then offer
them a place at the school they ranked highest.

What we do not is give priority to those who have ranked a school first,
which is why we say they are equal preferences.

I hope that the information that we have provided is to your
satisfaction. You are free to use any information supplied for your own
use, including for non-commercial research purposes. The information may
also be used for the purposes of news reporting. However, any other type
