School uniform grant data
Dear Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council,
Under the FOI Act I would like to request the following information:
1. For each of the 10 academic years 2013/14-2022/23 (including the current academic year) please specify whether the council has offered a school uniform grant or similar scheme (for example school clothing voucher or allowance), and if so what the budget was in each year.
2. Where a grant, voucher or other support was offered, please provide:
a) The number of applications received in each of those years.
b) The number of grants awarded in each of those years
c) The amount of money awarded in total in each of those years.
d) If a further breakdown is available by school, ward, uniform type, or gender, etc. please also provide this for each year

I write further to your request, which was received on 17 October 2022,
for information relating to school uniform grant.
1. For each of the 10 academic years 2013/14-2022/23 (including the
current academic year) please specify whether the council has offered a
school uniform grant or similar scheme (for example school clothing
voucher or allowance), and if so what the budget was in each year.
We can only provide the last 6 years as per below:
Yes – The authority has offered assistance to all eligible parents in the
form of a £20 or £25 voucher to use at selected shops.
Budget - £33,000.00 per year – (N.B. Academies who have a SLA ‘Service
Level Agreement’ are invoiced for their clothing vouchers issued, which is
deducted off the total expenditure).
2. Where a grant, voucher or other support was offered, please provide:
a) The number of applications received in each of those years.
We can only provide the last 6 years as per below:
2017/18 – 1,248 Applications received
2018/19 – 1,227 Applications received
2019/20 – 1,369 Applications received
2020/21 – 1,456 Applications received
2021/22 – 1,396 Applications received
2022/23 – 1,486 Applications received (As at 19^th January - Scheme open
until 31^st January 2023)
Nb: Application may include for multiply children

We can only provide the last 6 years as per below:
2017/18 – 1667 grants awarded
2018/19 – 1609 grants issued
2019/20 – 1789 grants issued
2020/21 – 1996 grants issued
2021/22 – 1893 grants issued
2022/23 – 1974 grants issued (As at 19^th January - Scheme open until
31^st January 2023)
c) The amount of money awarded in total in each of those years.
We can only provide the last 6 years as per below:
2017/18 – £39,335.00
2018/19 – £37,905.00
2019/20 – £42,545.00
2020/21 – £47,800.00
2021/22 – £45,505.00
2022/23 – £47,170.00 (As at 19^th January - Scheme open until 31^st
January 2023)
