School Apps

The request was successful.

Dear East Ayrshire Council,

I was hoping you could let me know how much East Ayrshire schools (or the council) spend per annum or per month on school apps e.g. Lainshaw Primary or Kilmaurs Primary use? In addition, are you able to let me know how much it was to set these up in the first place?

Could I also ask how the council and schools got comfort over spending money on a product that is free elsewhere (and also GDPR compliant) with limited functionality i.e. no two way communication. How does the no two way communication fit with the Scottish school parental involvement act 2006? There are often only one way communications from school (newsletters) and an app would have been a perfect way to introduce this.

Yours faithfully,
Nic

Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

I refer to your correspondence dated 11 November 2018 requesting information in relation to school apps.

The Council is treating your request as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and can respond as follows:

Total cost of apps purchased in 2018 for schools in the authority totals £1857.73.

The purpose of the app is to be able to provide information to parents and other interested parties. These apps are available to anyone who wishes to subscribe so it would not be appropriate to use this tool for 2 way communication with the school. We ask schools to use other methods to interact with parents including online surveys, parents' evenings, focus groups etc.

I trust this information has been of assistance to you and I have attached a leaflet to confirm your rights.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

Kind regards

Caroline
