Scheduled Monument Consent for the Newry Shop Canal with respect to the Newry Southern Relief Road
Dear Department for Communities (Northern Ireland),
further to your department's previous reply on this matter in Sept 2023 (see https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s... )
and in the light of the Minister for Infrastructure's recent written reply to the MLA for Newry and Armagh (AQW 11823/22027, 29 May 2024), where the Minister notes his department has 'engaged extensively' with the your department's Historic Environment Division (HED) on this subject,
please could you:
1. Provide copies of correspondence between the Dept for Infrastructure and the HED on this matter (namely, the construction of a fixed or lifting bridge across the Newry Ship Canal, as part of the Newry Southern Relief Road project).
2. Confirm whether this 'extensive engagement' constituted a formal application for Scheduled Monument Consent, and if so -
3. Confirm whether Scheduled Monument Consent has been granted in respect thereof, and any considerations your department made in its decision making process for the aforesaid.
Yours faithfully,
Ligand Fields
FAO of Mr Ligand Fields
