Savings in the cost of the Mayor's office

Robert Lindsay-Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Haringey Borough Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Robert Lindsay-Smith

Dear Haringey Borough Council,

Information supplied by the Council in February 2011 referred to cuts of £35,000 in the cost of the Mayor's office, including a saving by the Mayor sharing a driver with other officers.

Please supply a breakdown of figures to show how the above cost reduction of £35,000 has been achieved, and tell me during what period the Mayor has shared a driver.

This is why I made my previous FOI request about the costs of the Mayor's car, which I had assumed presented the major opportunity for saving. I apologise if that enquiry was not in the correct area.

Yours faithfully,

Robert Lindsay-Smith

Thank you for spotting that advert.

In February 2011, a council spokesman and the Leader made statements to the press in an article with the byline:-
'THE MAYOR’S chauffeur and top of the range BMW have both been put out of action following “brutal” budget cutbacks'

Dear Mr Lindsay-Smith,

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request ref: LBH/3789514

Thank you for your request for information received , in  which you asked
for the following information:

Please supply a breakdown of figures to show how the above cost reduction
of £35,000 has been achieved, and tell me during what period the Mayor has
shared a driver.

Information supplied by the Council in February 2011 referred to cuts of
£35,000 in the cost of the Mayor's office, including a saving by the Mayor
sharing a driver with other officers.

Please supply a breakdown of figures to show how the above cost reduction
of £35,000 has been achieved, and tell me during what period the Mayor has
shared a driver.

This is why I made my previous FOI request about the costs of the Mayor's
car, which I had assumed presented the major opportunity for saving. I
apologise if that enquiry was not in the correct area.

In response :

A restructure in 2011 brought about the deletion of x2 Full time positions
– The Mayor’s Chauffeur and Mayor’s Secretary. The restructure created a
role involving 0.5 Mayor’s Support Officer position and then in 2013  x1
part-time Mayor’s Driver’s post, with the driver working flexible
hours.(expected to work 80-90 hours per month).

From May 2011 Mayor’s Driver’s position was covered in-house with support
from the Council’s facilities management until February 2013. The Service
then created and employed 1 Mayor’s driver post and this was filled by 2
persons on a  job share basis. From December 2013 one of the job shared
drivers resigned  with the second driver resigning in August 2014.

Facilities Management Officers were used to cover engagements whenever the
Mayor’s Driver was not available.

You have already received a breakdown of costs in the response to your
previous FoI request. In that request there was a breakdown of
expenditure.

If you have any further queries, or are unhappy with how we have dealt
with your request and wish to make a complaint, please contact the

Robert Lindsay-Smith

Dear Clifford Hart,
Thank you for your reply. You have helpfully explained how the driving duties have been allocated at different times.

I am still unclear however about the first part of my question - a breakdown of the figure of £35,000 per annum saved. You refer me to the answer to my previous FOI request*, but from it I am unable to see how that figure was achieved.

Perhaps that is because that reply does not include the cost of the former Mayor's Secretary or that of the present 0.5 Support Officer position. If you could just tell me the difference between these, I will put all the figures into a spreadsheet to confirm that the overall reduction is indeed £35,000.

Yours sincerely,

Robert Lindsay-Smith

Dear Hart Clifford,

I do not appear to have received any reply to my email of 5 January asking for clarification of your main answer of that date, which does not contain all the information requested in the FOI.

Dear Haringey Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Haringey Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Savings in the cost of the Mayor's office'.

My question 'Please supply a breakdown of figures to show how the ... cost reduction of £35,000 has been achieved' has not been answered. I have been referred to the reply I received to another FOI request, but this does not contain the figure of £35,000, nor a breakdown of that figure.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s...

Yours faithfully,

Robert Lindsay-Smith
