Sanctions related to uniform

We're waiting for Matthew Gritton to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Hodge Hill College, Birmingham,

Under the FOI Act I would like to request the following information regarding sanctions and other punishment (e.g. detention, isolation, withdrawal of privileges, expulsion, exclusion) issued by the school in relation to uniform.

1) Please provide a breakdown, for each of the last five academic years, including the current academic year, of all punishments issued for misconduct relating to uniform (e.g. wearing wrong uniform, not wearing uniform, wearing forbidden items, etc). For each incident please provide:
The nature of the punishment
The nature of the misconduct
Whether it related to school uniform or sports kit or another aspect of uniform policy

If you are unable to provide a breakdown of each incident, please provide summary totals for each academic year with the same breakdown.
If you are unable to provide annual totals, please provide details of the system used to track student behaviour and how that is monitored by staff, e.g. how they are able to identify those students who have been sanctioned most often.

Yours faithfully,

Matthew Gritton

Enquiry Enquiry, Hodge Hill College, Birmingham

Dear Matthew Gritton,

In terms of sanctions:

•If pupils have an incorrect item of uniform they receive a tick on their behaviour for excellence card and the item of uniform is loaned to them (blazers, ties, pumps). If this happens to be the third tick on the behaviour for excellence card this would result in a 1 hour detention, again this is only for pupils who have arrived at school without uniform and valid reasons.
•If a pupil wears an item which is against school uniform guidelines (hoodies, non water-proofed coats etc.) These would be confiscated and parents asked to collect on a Friday after school, again the pupil would receive a tick for wearing a banned item. All details can be found in our uniform policy.
•Special dispensation is taken if their is a genuine reason and this is communicated to the school for e.g an item may be loaned long term, or uniform/PE kit purchased for the pupil.
•We do not suspend or isolate students for not having the correct uniform.
With regards to the last 5 academic years, we do not record this information

Kind regards
