Sanction Decisions

A Garbett made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for A Garbett to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I was recently sanctioned on JSA because I was told I didn't apply for every job, some of the jobs I wasn't qualified for and hence I didn't apply for (n.b. I apply for everything now! and should I be called in for an interview for a job I'm unqualified for, I shall profusely apologise for wasting their time and will explain why I have to apply for every job).
I have a tweleve-year-old daughter that I couldn't feed or send to school (as I had no food or power to launder her school uniform and this caused terrible hardship) -- all for no reason of my own.

I now realise this was a smoke screen to sanction as many people as possible to save money, see the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2013/m...

notwithstanding, the former, I would like to know:

1) if you have been sanctioned for not fault of your own, can you claim for a loss of income from the decision maker? If not who do you claim from?

2) How many people are needlessly challenged for "not" looking for work.

3) what age groups? working abilities (e.g the disabled that have been found "fit" for work)? Semi illiterate/illiterate? are the most likely to be sanctioned for no reason of their own

Yours faithfully,

A Garbett

Dear DWP OPD COO FOI Requests,

I have never seen such rubbish in all my life: I was 10 weeks without money, ALL BECAUSE YOU WANTED TO SAVE MONEY and give Easter eggs out as bonuses for sanctioning innocent people like myself.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA THE HELL I WENT THROUGH for 10 weeks without money!!!

1) in the coldest March for 30 years I couldn't have any heating on in my home and I have a 12-year-old child.

2) I couldn't send my child to school because didn't have money to pay for the electricity and detergent to launder her school uniform

3) the foodbank could only give us a bit of food as there were so many needy families (in the same plight)and I did without so my child could eat and another point what good was the food off the food bank when I couldn't afford the electricity to heat the food up (I'm on a pre-payment meter)

4) were it not for the fact that I have a 12-year-old child I would have taken my life.

So in the light of the hell you put me though,

PLEASE TRUTHFULLY ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS

Q1 why did you deny my 12-year-old daughter and I heat? food? and the basic lifestyle the human rights act says we're untitled to? (see section 25 of the human rights act)

Q2 are you now going to stop unnecessarily sanctioning people where
(i)there are no jobs?
(ii)or -as in my case - I didn't apply for every job (even though I was unqualified for the jobs e.g. managerial jobs they said I should have taken) so I was sanctioned WHY?
(iii) vulnerable people are the most likely to be sanctioned because they're educationally unlikely to take you on and appeal (e.g. mentally frail, semi or illiterate) why are you allowing this?

Q3 If you weren't unnecessarily sanctioning please explain why have admitted it?

see:
http://www.unemployednet.org/jobcentre-s...

Q4 will all the bonuses paid out for sanctioning people be paid back to those sanctioned for no reason of their own? n.b. I couldn't afford an Easter egg for my child!

In conclusion: I was very dissatisfied with your reply and request a truthful reply! And if you don't believe my PLIGHT then don't hesitate to contact me and I'll give you all my details

Yours sincerely,

A Garbett
