Safer Streets investment
Dear Mansfield District Council,
I'm writing to request information regarding the recently announced £133,000 that has been invested into Mansfield as part of a Safer Streets initiative, part of this is (in Mansfield District Council's words) "A new Street Guardian scheme to provide a volunteer first aider presence and support in the evenings on key weekends from 27 April."
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 - Please could you provide the following information:
1. How much of this funding is being utilized for the Street Guardian scheme?
2. Who is hosting the Street Guardian scheme? - (Who is the organization running the scheme)
3. Who within the authority is responsible for this scheme?
4. When will this scheme be operating? (Days and hours)
5. Are there any paid personnel as part of this scheme?
6. Who recruits the volunteers?
7. Which organizations are working together as part of this scheme?
8. Will organizations be able to join this scheme? - If so, how do they do this?
9. Will this scheme work in collaboration with existing street welfare schemes?
10. Excluding the funding, is there any additional costs (to anyone) for this portion of the scheme?
I would like this information to be provided to me in an written electronic format (PDF Letter). If it is not possible to provide the information in electronic format, please let me know, and I will be happy to receive it in another format.

Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(FOIA), dated 21 03 2024. As per section 1 (1) (a) of the FOIA, Mansfield
District Council (MDC) must inform in writing whether it holds information
of the description specified in the request and if that is the case to
have that communicated to the requestor. In your request you have asked
for :
1. How much of this funding is being utilized for the Street Guardian
scheme?
2. Who is hosting the Street Guardian scheme? - (Who is the organization
running the scheme)
3. Who within the authority is responsible for this scheme?

this portion of the scheme?
I can confirm that in this instance, MDC does retain the requested
information. As such, please see below our response:
1. How much of this funding is being utilized for the Street Guardian
scheme?
The overall budget for the Guardianship scheme is £19,037 spread over two
budget years.
2. Who is hosting the Street Guardian scheme? - (Who is the organization
running the scheme)
The Guardianship scheme will be hosted by Mansfield District Council, in
partnership with the Nottinghamshire Police and the Office Police Crime
commissioner.
3. Who within the authority is responsible for this scheme?
Mansfield District Councils Community Safety and Partnership team will
commission St Johns Ambulance to deliver the service.
4. When will this scheme be operating? (Days and hours)
The days will be provided based on the additional footfall during peak
times in the town centre, these include bank holidays, pay day weekends
etc.
5. Are there any paid personnel as part of this scheme?
St Johns ambulance will utilise their volunteer scheme to support the
scheme and develop their staff. Alongside this the delivery group will be
consulting with the Nottingham Trent University Mansfield Hub to provide
the paramedic students studying on this campus with an opportunity to
support the scheme alongside their academic studies.
6. Who recruits the volunteers?
This part of the scheme is still to be developed but the delivery group
will be consulting with the Nottingham Trent Mansfield Hub to provide the
paramedic students studying on this campus with an opportunity to support
the scheme alongside their academic studies.
7. Which organizations are working together as part of this scheme?
Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire Police, Office Police Crime
commissioner and St Johns Ambulance.
8. Will organizations be able to join this scheme? - If so, how do they do
this?
At present this is a standalone scheme.
9. Will this scheme work in collaboration with existing street welfare
schemes?
There should not be any issues with partnership working between
organisations this should naturally happen.
10. Excluding the funding, is there any additional costs (to anyone) for
this portion of the scheme?
No additional costs will be incurred as part of the scheme.
