Rustication Rates in Undergraduate Degrees, 2019-2023
Dear University of Oxford,
I write to request information regarding the number of rusticated students in each undergraduate degree course. I am seeking information about the number of rusticated students in each undergraduate degree course, the year that they matriculated, and the academic year in which they rusticated, i.e., Chemistry undergraduate, matriculated 2021, and rusticated during the Academic Year October 2022 to June 2023.
I am seeking the information outlined above for the number of students that rusticated in each of the following undergraduate subjects: Archaelogy and Anthropology; Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; Biochemistry; Biology; Biomedical Sciences; Chemistry; Classical Archaeology and Ancient History; Classics; Classics and English; Classics and Modern Languages; Computer Science; Computer Science and Philosophy; Earth Sciences; Economics and Management; Engineering Science; English and Modern Languages; English Language and Literature; European and Middle Eastern Languages; Fine Art; Foundation Year in Chemistry; Engineering and Materials Science; Foundation Year in Humanities; Foundation Year in Law; Foundation Year in PPE; Geography; History; History (Ancient and Modern); History and Economics; History and English; History and Modern Languages; History and Politics; History of Art; Human Sciences; Law (Jurisprudence)l Materials Science; Mathematics; Mathematics and Computer Science; Mathematics and Philosophy; Mathematics and Statistics; Medicine; Modern Languages; Modern Languages and Linguistics; Philosophy and Modern Languages; Philosophy and Theology; Philosophy, Politics and Economics; Physics; Physics and Philosophy; Psychology (Experimental); Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics; Religion and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; Theology and Religion.
Please provide the data from the Oxford Academic Year running from October 2019 to June 2020, the Oxford Academic Year running October 2020 to June 2021, the Oxford Academic Year running from October 2021 to June 2022, and the Oxford Academic Year running from October 2022 to June 2023.
For the undergraduate degrees listed, please provide the number of rusticated students and the year each rusticated student matriculated in each of the four academic years outlined.
If the disclosure of information may enable those with access to other information or knowledge to identify individuals and learn new information about those individuals, or for instance, in any matriculation cohort where the percentage of rusticated students is ‘high’ (likely because of a small matriculation cohort in a given academic year), instead provide a percentage statistic of rustication rates in a given year where possible. If this would still disclose information that would violate GDPR regulations, for instance, if a matriculation cohort of one individual then rusticated, please instead note that ‘the cohort size is too low to provide information’. We would establish ‘high’ as any matriculation cohort for a specific degree that saw a 33% or greater rustication rate. In any cohort where the rustication rate for each matriculation year and degree subject is lower than 33%, it is unreasonable to assume that those with access to other information or knowledge would be able to identify an individual and learn new information about that individual.
Yours faithfully,
Flora Prideaux
