REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: Brucella canis information 
Thank you for your request for information of 26th May about Brucella canis. APHA 
have handled your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). 
Your information request and our response are set out below. 
“Please can you tell me what the sensitivity and specificity (plus 95% confidence interval 
associated with each) is for the RSA test used by your laboratory to detect Brucella canis 
positive dogs in the UK.” 
 
Rapid Slide Agglutination assay  (RSA) is estimated to be 70.15% (95% Confidence 
Interval 59.65 - 79.25%). 
 
The Diagnostic Specificity of the RSA is estimated to be 98.68% (95% Confidence interval 
97.83 - 99.22%) 
 
Please note: Validation is a continuous process and the number may change over time 
as more samples become available.
