Rotherhithe Tunnel - penalty charge notices for contravention of vehicle size limit

G Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Transport for London This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Sir/Madam

This request is made in relation to penalty charge notices (PCNs) issued for contraventions of the weight, length and width restrictions applicable to Rotherhithe Tunnel.

1. For each of the preceding 12 months, please specify, individually for each month, how many PCNs have been issued on a week by week basis. If it makes it easier, no distinction/breakdown is needed for contravention type - just total PCNs issued.
2. How much is the penalty charge?
3. Is revenue/profit received by TfL from Rotherhithe Tunnel PCNs ringfenced to enable the required ventilation upgrade work to the tunnel to take place?

I hope my request is clear, but please let me know if I can provide any clarification.

Thank you for your assistance.

Yours faithfully

Gavin Smith

Dear Mr Smith

TfL Ref: 1724-2223

Thank you for your request received by us on 16 October 2022 asking for
information about Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) issued for contraventions
applicable to the Rotherhithe Tunnel.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

1. For each of the preceding 12 months, please specify, individually for
each month, how many PCNs have been issued on a week by week basis.  If it
makes it easier, no distinction/breakdown is needed for contravention type
- just total PCNs issued.

Please see the attached PDF providing the requested data.

2. How much is the penalty charge?

Penalty Charge Notices are set at £160, reduced by 50% if paid within 14
days. Please see the link below for further information about PCN
enforcement:

3. Is revenue/profit received by TfL from Rotherhithe Tunnel PCNs
ringfenced to enable the required ventilation upgrade work to the tunnel
to take place?

We can advise that all revenue received for PCNs is reinvested into
improving transport in London in accordance with The Mayor's Transport
Strategy. While this includes revenue from PCNs issued for breaching the
Rotherhithe Tunnel restrictions in place, the specific revenue from these
penalties is not ring fenced for works on the tunnel.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable
to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
