Dear South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's handling of my FOI request 'Rotherham 2'.
If South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service intends to reduce the number of riders on a fire pump from five to four then there has to have been some consideration given to how this would impact on the mental and physical health of people they serve.
I wholly appreciate what the response says but to have such a cavalier attitude towards those with specific needs is, I'd suggest, not in keeping with the Equality Act 2010. The Act makes very clear that to directly or indirectly discriminate against people with the protected characteristics is illegal - surely by making this cut in staff and not having any policy to outline how to mitigate that is not acceptable?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service,
Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's handling of my FOI request 'Rotherham 2'.
Can I be absolutely clear, South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service is willing to engage in a reduction of fire cover and firefighters without any regard to the physical or mental health of the people it serves?
I need a really clear answer please.

Dear Mr Cawkwell
Thank you for your email. We received a request from yourself for an
internal review of FOI 1626 (where you requested information relating to
the impact of those with mental and physical health problems if the cut
from five to four riders goes ahead) on the 25 May 2019. Following our
processes this was sent to the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority
Monitoring Officer at Barnsley MBC. You received an outcome to this
request from the Deputy Monitoring Officer on the 24 June 2019. I have
attached a copy for your information.
Please note that the proposal to reduce the number of firefighters we have
on an engine from 5 to 4 is one of the options set out in our latest draft
Integrated Risk Management Plan. Please find a link to the document here:
[1]http://www.syfire.gov.uk/wp-content/uplo....
This plan is in the consultation phase (which includes consulting with
members of the public) and is currently still a proposal. This option will
however, reduce costs without impacting on fire cover or the speed of our
emergency response.
We will maintain our provision of protecting those most vulnerable in
society through continuing to respond to calls for assistance in the same
timeframes as we currently do and through our Community Risk Model,
irrespective of the area or demographic that the call was made from.
Additionally all our protection and prevention work we do in the community
and our partnership working will continue to identify those most at risk
and consider the needs of the individual/community requiring assistance.
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information
Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9
5AF and at [2]www.ico.org.uk.
