Rolling Out Job Advisers in Food Banks Across the UK

Department for Work and Pensions did not have the information requested.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (“SoS”) told the House of Commons Work and Pensions Committee that following the trial of having two advisers working one day a week at the Lalley Welcome Centre in Manchester that:

“If this works and if the other food banks are willing to encompass this and we think it works, we think we would like to roll this out across the whole of the UK.”

It is unclear from what the SoS said if the DWP is doing any work on rolling out job advisers in food banks across the UK. Therefore please disclose the following (if they exist):

1. Is the DWP doing any substantive work on rolling out job advisers in food banks across the UK? If not does it intend to do so in the near future (i.e. next 6 months)?
(I appreciate that this is a question but would be grateful if the DWP answered it).

2. Scoping document(s) or plan(s) dealing with the placement of job advisers in food banks across the UK (please exclude the trial at the Lalley Welcome Centre in Manchester).

I assume that as the SoS has stated that we wants to do this then the high level policy has been agreed and therefore the above information cannot be subject to S.35 of the FOA.

Yours faithfully,

John Slater
