Rogue JCP officer and data breach

J Roberts made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Department for Work and Pensions.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

In a recently published report by the PHSO a number of cases concerning Jobcentre Plus maladministration etc. are enumerated:

http://www.ombudsman.org.uk/__data/asset...

In one case (see page 21) a rogue Jobcentre Plus officer shared a claimant's confidential information with a third party who had abused the claimant. As a consequence, the claimant had to move to another part of the country. In this case the PHSO recommended that you make an additional consolatory payment of £2,000.

1. How much was the consolatory payment you originally offered in this case?

2. By how much did ICE increase the amount you offered?

3. For each of the past 3 years how many Jobcentre Plus staff have been found to have shared claimants' confidential information with parties they should not?

4. For each of the past 3 years how many claimants are known to have had their confidential information improperly shared by Jobcentre Plus staff?

5. For each of the past three years, what is the total amount of consolatory payments made to claimants who have had their confidential information improperly shared by Jobcentre Plus staff?

Yours faithfully,

J Roberts

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work and Pensions's handling of my FOI request 'Rogue JCP officer and data breach'.

In my communication of 31 October I submitted 5 requests for information. You responded that:

"Under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act the Department is not obliged to comply with your request and we will not be processing your request further."

You provide advice on how I could narrow my requests, but I do not see how the advice you provided relates to requests 1 and 2:

1. How much was the consolatory payment you originally offered in this case?
2. By how much did ICE increase the amount you offered?

Please provide the information requested.

I shall contact you again in the near future concerning the remaining three requests.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/r...

Yours faithfully,

J Roberts

Dear Operations FOI Requests,

In your email of 13 November you wrote:

"and it may help if I outline some possible ways of narrowing your request. For example  requesting a smaller time frame. "

Please replace "For each of the past 3 years" in requests numbered 3, 4 and 5 with "For the year 2013/14".

When my requests were dealt with originally you made an incorrect decision not to provide me with any information. If, for example, only one my refined requests exceeds the cost limit, please do not fail to provide what information you can pertaining to the remaining two.

Additionally, please provide full details of how the DWP gathers, stores and retrieves information on staff working in Jobcentre Plus offices found to have improperly shared claimants' information with third parties.

Yours sincerely,

J Roberts
