Dear Richmond upon Thames Borough Council,

This is a request around the guidelines used by the transport department when repairs or any other changes are being made to carriageways, highways, pavements, etc.

I understand there are works planned to the lighting on Hampton Court bridge.

Can you please send me the current guidance which is used for works like this, around what happens to existing provision for walking and cycling when such works are going on?

Can you please also tell me when this was last reviewed, and whether it is due to be reviewed again.

Yours faithfully,

Tim Lennon

Dear Tim Lennon,

Your request for information which was received on 1 November 2016 has

Our response:

Please be advised that, the Safety at Street Works & Road Works Code of
Practice is used by the Works Promoter to determine the appropriate
traffic management, who would then get a permit (approval) via the Network
Management team.

Traffic and pedestrian management is assessed before all  works to ensure
the safety of road for the duration of the work.

The width of the footpath on the Hotel side of Hampton Court Bridge will
be reduced during the street lighting refurbishment works,  this will
require the closure of  the cycle path across the bridge and  cyclists
will be requested to dismount from their cycles and walk past the lighting
works to allow the safe passage of both cyclists and pedestrians.

Safety at Street Works & Road Works Code of Practice published in 2013 no
review date is published

I hope you are satisfied with this response.
