Road verges - ecological protection scheme
Dear Sir or Madam,
If you run an ecological protection scheme for road verges in your area, please could you provide me with the following details:
a) what protection measures a verge receives when it is included in the scheme
b) the list of verges covered by the scheme (and their locations - road name/number and six figure OS grid references would be fine)
c) for each verge, the specific reasons why the verge has been included in the scheme - i.e. the notable species found there, or the NVC community present
If you do not run such a scheme in your area, but you are aware that another body does, please could you refer me to them instead.

Your request relates to Environmental Information and will be processed in accordance with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
Your request will now be considered and you will receive a response within the statutory timescale of 20 working days as defined by the regulations, subject to the information not being exempt or containing a reference to a third party. In some circumstances Powys County Council may be unable to achieve this deadline. If this is likely you will be informed and given a revised time-scale at the earliest opportunity.
There may be a fee payable for the retrieval, collation and provision of the information you request. If this is the case you will be informed and the 20 working day timescale will be suspended until we receive payment from you. If you choose not to make a payment then your request will remain unanswered.
Some requests may also require either full or partial transference to another public authority in order to answer your query in the fullest possible way. Again, you will be informed if this is the case.
The due date for responding to this request for information is April 7, 2009.

This is to inform you that the information relating to your request has been collated and is as follows:
The Council operates a protection scheme for road verges under the heading Roadside Verge Nature Reserves (RVNRs) in association with the three Wildlife Trusts in Powys.
There are currently 114 sites as detailed on the attached schedule. Those sites shown as pending will be treated in accordance with the Management regime stated in advance of their formal acceptance into the scheme.
Please see attachment containing list of schemes.
We believe that this request is now complete and shall be closed immediately. Should any further information be requested regarding this topic, a separate request will need to be submitted.
