Road Speed Limits

Michael Beaver made this Freedom of Information request to Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,

I need a document with details of the speed limit for every road within the the UK.

Yours faithfully,

Michael Beaver

Allen, Mark,

Dear Mr Beaver,

Thank you for your request of the 23rd November. It has been passed to the
Highways Agency as we are the executive agency of the Department for
Transport that holds the most information that can help you. DVLA have
confirmed that they do not hold any information on speed limits.

The Highways Agency is responsible for the strategic road network in
England. A map of the motorways and roads for which we are responsible can
be seen at [1]http://www.highways.gov.uk/aboutus/139.a.... Information
for other roads within the UK is held by the relevant local highways
authority, Transport Scotland, the Welsh Government or the Roads Service
for Northern Ireland. I can confirm that the central Department for
Transport does not hold any speed limit information for any roads.

I can also confirm that we do not hold a document with the details of
speed limits for our roads. We do have an electronic system that stores a
large amount of information about our network in over 20,000 sections,
with each section having a label. We can supply the speed limits for each
section as a series of shapefiles if you have graphics software to view
it, or we can supply the same data as a list in a '.csv' format.

Please can you let me know if still require the information for our
network in England and if so, which of the formats that can provide would
be most useful to you?

Yours sincerely,
