Road Safety Audit for A6MARR Disley Mitigation (Cycle Lanes)

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council did not have the information requested.

Dear Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council,

In late 2017 a “mitigation” scheme including “cycle lanes” was completed on the A6 Buxton Road West northwest of Disley, Cheshire East financed by funds from the A6MARR (A555) road building scheme.

Though this involves a highway managed by Cheshire East, that authority have advised that it is Stockport MBC who hold the following information to be requested, perhaps as Stockport were the lead authority on the A6MARR project.

I am writing to request you provide full copies of the final Road Safety Audit undertaken for the final design of this Disley Mitigation scheme, specifically the addition of cycle lanes, which includes:

- Dashed advisory cycle markings, intermittent
- No reduction to 40mph speed limit
- No removal of central traffic bollard islands, forcing narrowing of carriageway

Given the changes above, a Road Safety Audit should have been completed to ensure the new road layout does not pose an increased danger to any road users. Please provide this in full along with any supporting documentation relating to the final design decisions undertaken.

Yours faithfully,

A. Sheridan
