Road Repairs
Dear Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council,
Could you please tell me A)Why has one contract firm has kept the contract for minor road works for the past 30 years or more ?
B)Why are there are no names on the lorries or equipment ? and C)Why no telephone numbers to contact them about their hap hazard way of setting about the job and actually doing the job i:e blocking pavements ,forcing pedestrians to walk into danger and no warning of their future work in one area ?
Yours faithfully,
michael cawley
Dear Mr Cawley,
I am writing in response to your request for information (ref FOI 8819).
The relevant Council Service(s) has searched for the requested information
and our response is as follows.
A)Why has one contract firm has kept the contract for minor road works for
the past 30 years or more ?
Until November 2006 with the formation of the Council’s wholly owned
company, Solutions SK Ltd, minor road works were undertaken by the Council
directly. Since the company was formed the Council has used Solutions SK,
as it’s provider of choice. In March this year, the Council’s Executive
received a report to consider the future provision of the Council’s
Greenspace, Waste Collection, Street Cleansing (including Grounds
Maintenance) and Highways Maintenance functions. [1]A copy of the report
can be found here.
B)Why are there are no names on the lorries or equipment ?
The SSK branding has been applied on certain vehicles within the fleet
however a proportion of the vehicles are hired or owned by a
sub-contractor resource.
C)Why no telephone numbers to contact them about their hap hazard way of
setting about the job and actually doing the job i:e blocking pavements
,forcing pedestrians to walk into danger and no warning of their future
work in one area ?
Work taking place on the highway is covered by the GMRAPS (Greater
Manchester Roads Activities Permit Scheme). Contractors are required to
display their works or permit number. Enquiries relating to work carried
out on the highway should be directed to the Council’s contact centre 0161
217 6111 or emailed to [2][email address]

Dear Mr Cawley,
Thank you for your email. I am unclear as to what you mean by ‘internal
request’. Are you requesting an internal review of your FOI response? Also
regarding the email address, is it that the link doesn’t work or that you
require a different email address?
Yours sincerely

Dear FOI Why is that these vehicles have no name or contact number on them .They also don't bear the colours of SK Solutions. Nobody knows who they are and if a pedestrian got hurt who could they report the incident to ?The colours that they are painted in are the same as the old company Yours sincerely,
michael cawley

The information has been prepared by the relevant Council service and is

As it says on the help pages for this site, asking "why" generally doesn't form a valid FoI request:
"Phrasing your request as a question or a request for comment (e.g. “why are you doing X?” or “please explain why you are doing X”) makes it more likely that your message will not be seen as a valid FOI request, both by us and by the public authority. Asking for “copies of all policies and procedures regarding X” would normally result in a valid FOI request."
