There are between 2100 and 2200 kilometres of roads in Kirklees. As a
result of this, most safety inspections are driven safe for busy urban
areas such as town centres and smaller village centres. Two people drive
along the routes, one with the role of an observer to check the defects
whilst the other drives. A high visibility vehicle is used in order to
view both edges of the street at a speed of no more than 10-15 miles per
hour. This is in accordance with the Code of Good Practice for Highways
Maintenance Management July 2005.
