Christopher Lee

Dear Essex County Council,
Work has been completed resurfacing Lugar Close in Colchester recently. The quality of work completed is of a spectacularly low state. The drain covers in an area that floods regularly have been tarmaced over the edges.

What were the design specifications for the completed finish around drains and other covers?

Yours faithfully,

Christopher Lee

Dear Your Right To Know,
Thanks for the reply Transparency Team. Firstly, I'll make a deal with you, don't feed me a pile a rubbish and I won't tell you what I think of it. I'd imagine that you probably work off guidance that says "don't accept liability for anything ever" but the fact that since my first contact with yourselves someone has been out and sprayed the word "replace" on half of the iron works in Lugar Close means you've already accepted liability that they were not up to the required standard. Want to see the photos? "The surfacing materials are required to be clear of these iron works", could you be a little more specific about what you mean please?

Your link below suggests that if they are clear any more than 50mm then they are a pothole. A nice new one, that you've just added.

I'm also failing to reconcile your position with that of the Department for Transport's Code of Practice for the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 - Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in Highways.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/sy...

Is that the guideline you work to? If not, what is the design specification for the finished works?

Yours sincerely,
Christopher Lee

One last thing: the poor sod that got roped into polishing some of them turds has really pulled some magic out of his arse tidying them and deserves full credit!
