wrt:
Regional Trauma Network Northern ireland.
and the Regional Truama Centre in RVH.

There have been significant changes to the major trauma network processes recently. These changes include the withdrawal of emergency general surgery from both Daisy Hill hospital and the Southwest acute hospital.

These changes are noted on the most recent, Northern Ireland major trauma toolkit.

Can you please provide a copy of the risk assessment and other related change documents that were carried out in order to ensure that patient safety was not compromised by these changes.

Yours faithfully,

helen hamill

Dear Laura Duncan,

Laura, I am afraid the response does not assist me in anyway.
The Northern Ireland major trauma network is a regional service.

The principles, for which it was created extend across Northern Ireland. To insult me by suggesting that one trust was responsible for assessing the impact of removing a hospital from that framework is not acceptable.

I would like you to note that my question asked for all related documents carried out to ensure that patient safety was not compromised -and you issued me with a copy- which you misnamed- of the NIMTN major trauma, triage tool updated to acknowledge the closure of surgical services.

You stated in your response that the regional trauma network was at that stage “hosted by” the department of health- with that statement in mind, I would like to ask you since the creation of the Northern Ireland major trauma network which bodies have had responsibility and accountability for providing the Northern Ireland trauma care appropriate to the entire population served.

finally, you assure me that the regional trauma network considered the implications of these changes… can I refer back to my original request and suggest that I would like the paperwork which you refer to what to do not attach. Any meetings any emails, any formal or informal contact with regards to the updating of the guidance for patients travelling on NIMTN.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,

helen hamill
