Revoking of Academy Orders
Dear Department for Education,
I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Please send me information including numbers, names and addresses and reasons given for revoking Academy orders on schools since 2014 to the current day.
I would like the above information to be provided for me as electronic or paper copies.
If this request is too wide or unclear I would be grateful if you could contact me as I understand that, under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters. If any of this information is already in the public domain, please can you direst me to it, with page numbers and URLs if necessary.
If the release of any of this information is prohibited on the grounds of breach of confidentiality, I ask that you supply me with copies of the confidentiality agreement and remind you that information should not be treated as confidential if no agreement has been signed.
I understand that you are required to respond to my request within twenty working days after you receive this letter. I would be grateful if you could confirm in writing that you have received this request.

Unfortunately, our response is taking longer than anticipated. Please be
assured we are dealing with your request and will endeavour to respond as
soon as we can. I would like to offer my apologies for the delay; the
Department takes very seriously its obligations under the Act, including
the requirement to respond within the statutory deadline of 20 working
days. I am afraid that we have not been able to maintain this standard in
this instance and while there may be considered to be mitigating
circumstances, this delay is not acceptable and I am very sorry for the
inconvenience that it may cause you.

I have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The power to revoke an academy order, that was made because a maintained
school is eligible for intervention, is discretionary and is contained in
Section 5(D) of the Academies Act 2010.
Each request to revoke is considered on a case-by-case basis and as set
out in the Schools Causing Concern guidance will only be used in very
exceptional circumstances – for example, where the maintained school is
not viable and therefore it is most appropriate for it to close.
Twenty-nine schools have had their academy orders revoked since 2014:

and had yet to provide a response to your request. An email containing our
